Calorie information could boost healthy eating

More people could be returning to their own kitchens to prepare healthy food as a result of fast-food retailers displaying calorie counts on their menus.Kitchen sinks could soon be used to wash more fresh fruit and vegetables as people move towards a healthier diet.McDonalds has announced plans to include calorie information on its menu boards from September 2011.According to the National Obesity Forum (NOF), the move will make people more conscious of what they eat.Tam Fry, spokesperson for the NOF, said It might take a year or two years, [but] there will be a move towards eating more healthily.Education is the real fundamental basis for all this.Children who are educated about calories will then look for that information, she added.According to the NOF, research from the US has shown that children opt for taste over calories however Mr Fry believes this is the beginning of healthier decisions when it comes to food.ADNFCR-1321-ID-800466180-ADNFCR
