A host of innovative new inventions will be on display at this years James Dyson Awards.Now in its fifth year, the competition challenges aspiring design students to develop practical solutions to a range of real-world problems.Last years winner was Automist, a fire extinguisher which could be directly fitted to a standard kitchen tap, is now available on the market.The winning invention will be able to claim a prize of 20,000 and will be decided by Sir James Dyson.Sir James said Were looking for useful ideas that demonstrate adventurous thinking and a rigorous approach to a problem. Many of this years designs have real potential.Among the potential winners for the competition are a life raft which generates fresh drinking water and a sports bag which kills odour and bacteria using UV light.Meanwhile, Arizona Republic writer Rosie Romero suggested that homeowners look for gadgets that preserve resources and promote good health in their kitchens.
