Architect keeps kitchen sink area separate

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

An architect chose to buck the current openplan design trend by keeping his home kitchen separate from his dining room and lounge.Chris Garnham told the Taranaki Daily News that he decided not to go for the open-plan option because he did not want his entertainment space to become cluttered with kitchen appliances and accessories. Its the opposite way to most designs today, but we didnt want to plonk the sink island unit in the middle of the dining and lounge room. Who wants to sit down to dinner and look at the pots and pans? he said.Mr Garnham added that he installed a wide kitchen doorway to retain the connection with the other rooms while offering a modest separation. To achieve continuity with the other rooms, the newspaper also noted that the homes downstairs flooring - a layer of solid Siberian ash timber had been laid to run from the welcoming foyer entrance right through to the kitchen, dining and lounge areas.Earlier this month, Neil Wertheimer, editor-in-chief of Fresh Home magazine, wrote for Freep.com that homeowners are choosing to create separate kitchen work zones to cater for their specialist food and drink interests.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19575331-ADNFCR
