2008 goes retro in the kitchen

Austin Powers may not himself be a fashion role model, but the retro traditions he hails from are the order of the day in 2008 home design, it has been claimed.Retro is the buzzword for home design this year, according to Scottish newspaper the Daily Record, meaning 1960s and 70s-style hanging chairs, plexi-glass tables and futuristic white plastic chairs will be making a comeback. Kitchens will be filled with primary colours, it was added, as red, yellow and blue dominate paint schemes, leaving bold black and white monoprints to prevail elsewhere on upholstry and wallpaper. But the retro revolution does not mean that top-class modern stainless steel sinks such as the Carisma 401 Carron Phoenix Sink will be out of place, with the Daily Record claiming that metallic finishes and effects will be an ever-present element of 2008 home styling. Those harnessing the throwback feel in the kitchen can also benefit from the recently released Kitchen Devils Retro Knife Block, a product claiming retro roots through its wacky curved design.Outside the kitchen, a further tip from the Daily Record told readers to be on the look-out for table lamps and vessels in copper and bronze.
